The Sea and the Blue Mountains

PDFPrintE-mail

"what sweet dreams inspired my sight, of that far away sea, of those blue mountains I discover here and which, one day, I thought to cross, pretending to add arcane world, arcane happiness, to my life."
- G. Leopardi

Our land, so close to the sea, is nested at the roots of the Sibillini mountains, a land of breathtaking landscapes, historical towns, and ancient myths.

At no more than a couple of hours by car away, you can forget the chaotic city life and exhilarating summer beach life and enter the wilderness and peace our national park provides. This part of the Appennines is vital for its flora and fauna, some of which cannot be found anywhere else in the world, like the fairy shrimp Chirocephalus marchesonii in the peculairly shaped Lago di Pilato (Pilato Lake).

In the peace of nature we can find two of the best known holy spots, and sites of European importance, in the area: the Ambro Sanctuary and the Saint Leonard Hermitage in the Infernaccio gorge. The Ambro Sanctuary, which is a pilgrimage destination in every period of the year, rises next to a stream and a gully surrounded by wild vegeation, famous for the incredible number of butterflies it hosts. The Infernaccio gorge lies not far away, between the slopes of the Sibilla and Priora mountains. Here is the spring of the Tenna river, which marks the border between the Macerata and Fermo province.
